SBU warns of possible Russian information attack on Kursk region

Russia is preparing a new information campaign against Ukraine, accusing Ukrainian soldiers of crimes they did not commit. The Ukrainian Security Service and the Center for Combating Disinformation have learned of this. The purpose of such attacks is to undermine Ukraine’s credibility in the eyes of the world.

In the Kursk region, fighting is still going on and Russian special forces are trying to distort events. They want to use these battles as an excuse to fabricate stories about crimes committed by Ukrainian troops against civilians.

According to Ukrainian security services, Russia may soon deliberately launch attacks on civilians in order to later claim that the attacks were carried out by Ukrainians. The Russians may even dress their agents in Ukrainian soldiers’ uniforms as a provocation.

Andrei Kovalenko, director of the Center for Combating Disinformation, stressed that Russian propaganda is actively spreading lies.

“The Russians are already spreading lies that Ukrainians are killing and looting in the Kursk region,” he said.

These actions are intended not only to spread fear among the population but also to make the world suspicious of Ukraine. In addition, the Russians can use the Kursk nuclear power plant’s location close to military operations as a means of pressure and blackmail.

The Ukrainian Security Service and the Center for Combating Disinformation urged everyone to pay attention to information coming from Russia. They pointed out the importance of verifying facts and not giving in to provocations, because in modern warfare, information can be as powerful a weapon as conventional weapons.
