Muscat: Omani budget airline SalamAir celebrated a successful July and introduced its new chief executive officer at its headquarters in Muscat Hills on Tuesday.
The airline, which currently flies to 39 international destinations and connects passengers to Salalah from four regional destinations, also revealed its ambitious growth plans at the media event.
Oman budget airline has added two new destinations to its existing eight destinations in India (Mumbai and Bangalore).
From September 2, there will be four flights per week to Mumbai and from September 6, there will be two flights per week to Bengaluru.
One-way fares to Mumbai start at RON 19 and to Bangalore at RON 33, including a 7kg hand luggage allowance. Passengers can customize their travel experience with meals, additional baggage and travel insurance.
The expansion is part of Salam Air’s strategy to continue offering low fares and more choices for passengers.
Our ‘Light Fares’ allow passengers to stretch their travel budgets by paying only for the services they need, ensuring significant savings while exploring new destinations.
Speaking to The Observer on the sidelines of the event, Adrian Hamilton-Mance, CEO of Salam Airlines, said: “The Indian subcontinent is a key focus area for us and we are committed to strengthening our connections and providing affordable travel options.
“We are proud to expand our service to Mumbai and Bengaluru, and recently launched services to Delhi, Chennai, Islamabad and Lahore. This growth is in line with Oman Vision 2040 and supports our strategic objectives.
“In addition, to support the Kharef season, we have enhanced connectivity to Sohar, Fujairah, Baghdad and Bahrain, increasing capacity to Salalah by 9% compared to the same period in 2023.”
He added that the airline currently has 13 aircraft and will add two more next year.
They also plan to increase the frequency of flights to these destinations.
In July this year, the airline’s operating capacity increased by 24% compared to June. With the addition of these additional flights, Salam Air now flies to eight destinations in India, including Delhi, Calicut, Chennai, Lucknow, Jaipur and Hyderabad.
The expansion plan has resulted in a 14% increase in business in India and a 29% increase in business in Pakistan compared to previous periods.
Recently, the Civil Aviation Administration of China has launched seasonal routes from Sohar, Fujairah, Baghdad, Bahrain to Salalah, as well as direct flights to Baku, Almaty, Tirana and Trabzon.
