(CNS): Cayman Islands yachtsman Charlotte Webster competed in the women’s sailing event at the Paris Olympics, finishing 41st out of 43 competitors after the 10th race of the opening series was cancelled due to bad weather. The top 10 boats will now move on to medal races, meaning Webster will not advance and the Cayman Islands team will not compete in any events at the Paris Olympics.

“It’s awesome to say now that I made it to the Olympics,” Webster said. “It’s really a dream come true for me. I know I put in a lot of hard work to get to where I am today.

Her final day of competition, like much of the week, was filled with weather challenges. Race 9 of the opening series was canceled and restarted later in the day. Race 10 was canceled entirely.

Webster was in good form before the break. She was in the middle of the pack before the 9th race was cancelled and was in fourth place before the 10th race was cancelled. When the 9th race was restarted, she was in 37th place.

“Today, I wanted to give it my all, and I did,” she said. “It was an incredible experience to compete against the best girls in the world. It was amazing to see countries that you don’t normally see on the water competing against the countries that win gold medals in all the competitions. It was a global experience, and I felt the Olympic spirit, and I feel like it’s something I’ll never forget.”

“It’s been a really memorable week; very difficult at times and very frustrating at times because I didn’t play the races I wanted to, but I’m really happy with the whole process. It hasn’t been easy and my training has been really intense over the last six months, so I’m really happy to have achieved the result I have.”
