Two graduates will no longer have the right to higher education after the wrong calculation of the results of the state entrance exam. The doors to university have been closed to three more young people who will be able to participate in university entrance competitions, the Lithuanian Association of Higher Education Institutions General Admissions (LAMA BPO) announced.
“With the change in the final calculation of the exam scores, 2 graduates lost their admission rights because they did not meet the threshold requirements, and 3 graduates did not reach the average score of the 3 exams required by the university, but they will be able to be admitted to the university if they win the competition,” said a representative of LAMA BPO in a written comment to Eltai Erika Vaitkūniene.
The association’s representative said that the calculation of competition scores has been completed and preliminary results are expected to be discussed with the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports (ŠMSM) and higher education institutions on Friday.
ELTA reminds that on Thursday, the National Education Agency (NŠA) informed that the final grades of the twelfth grade examination papers were changed due to an error in the company’s digitization of high school graduates’ examination results when calculating the examination results.
It has been announced that the main test scores for foreign languages (English, German, Russian), biology, physics, geography and retests have changed following the error.
“The company informed that due to a technical error, the algorithm for calculating the final exam grades did not include corrections made by students to their answers to closed questions on their answer sheets. As a result, the final evaluation of 2,832 graduate works changed in the higher direction, by an average of about 1.4 points (out of 100 points), while the final evaluation of 1,044 graduate works changed in the lower direction, with an insignificant average change of 1.3 points (out of 100 points),” said Aldakauskas, interim director of the National Security Agency, in an earlier announcement.
The interim head of the NŠA said that five graduates failed to pass the exam after the error was corrected.
“Five students appeared, (…) they will not pass the exams”, said A. Aldakauskas, who could not reveal whether the admission certificates of these students would be revoked.
NŠA noted that all updated information has reached LAMA BPO so that the admission process of higher education institutions will not be disrupted.
