A fatal accident occurred on the A31 motorway heading from Luxembourg City to Metz shortly before 4pm on Thursday.
According to the Luxembourg Automobile Association (ACL), a serious accident occurred near Mont-delange between Thionville and Metz during rush hour, in which a motorcycle collided with a car, killing a 58-year-old male motorcyclist, the Moulins-les-Metz motorway control center confirmed.
Initial investigations revealed that the motorcyclist was caught off guard by the slowing traffic and collided with a vehicle in the left lane. Despite the fire brigade’s best efforts, the motorcyclist could not be saved.
Motorists were advised to avoid the area as traffic was reduced to a single lane. By 5pm, traffic jams stretched for nearly 15 kilometres on the A31 and three kilometres on the A30. By 5.45pm, congestion on the A31 had stretched for 20 kilometres, reaching as far as Hettange-Grande.
