Israel launched an attack on an ammunition depot in a town in southern Lebanon late Saturday, slightly injuring three people and causing a rocket explosion, state media said.
The strikes, about 30 kilometers from the border, came after Hezbollah, which controls much of southern Lebanon, and its Palestinian ally Hamas fired rockets and explosives-laden drones at Israeli positions.
The Lebanese National News Agency said that “the target of the attack on the town of Adlon was an ammunition depot.” Earlier, the agency reported that “Israeli enemies launched an attack on the area” and “rocket explosions are still occurring,” and the explosion “caused minor injuries to three civilians.”
Since the Palestinian militant group attacked southern Israel on October 7, triggering the war in the Gaza Strip, Hezbollah has been engaged in almost daily cross-border fighting with Israeli troops in support of Hamas.
Nigeria’s National Guard said traffic on the highway was shut down in both directions, and videos circulating online showed several large explosions in the coastal town.
“Shrapnel from the explosion flew into surrounding villages,” the Nigerian National Army said.
Earlier on Saturday, the Syrian News Agency reported that an “enemy drone attacked an empty 4×4 vehicle near the tents of Syrian nationals near the border, injuring Syrian nationals, including children.
Dr. Mouenes Kalakesh, director of the Marjayoun public hospital, said a woman and her three children, two of whom were minors, were taken to hospital with shrapnel wounds after an attack outside Burj al-Muluk hospital.
One of the boys, an 11-year-old, was in critical condition after suffering shrapnel injuries to his head, Karakash told AFP.
Hezbollah drones
Hezbollah said it fired “dozens of Katyusha rockets” at the northern Israeli region of Dafna, the first time the group has targeted the area “in retaliation for attacks on civilians.”
Hamas’ armed wing, the Qassam Brigades, said they also fired a barrage of rockets from southern Lebanon at Israeli military positions in the Upper Galilee region in “retaliation for the Zionist massacre of civilians in the Gaza Strip.”
Later on Saturday, Iran-backed Hezbollah said it had also launched “explosive-laden drones” targeting “artillery and missile positions” and Israeli troops and Iron Dome platforms in the Golan Heights.
Before the drone strike, the Israeli army said a total of 45 “projectiles” were fired from Lebanon at the occupied Golan Heights and Galilee regions on Saturday afternoon, causing no casualties.
The Israeli military said it struck a “launcher in southern Lebanon that was firing artillery shells at the Golan Heights” and also hit “another Hezbollah launcher.”
Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah has warned that if Israeli strikes kill more civilians, the Iran-backed Hezbollah group will attack new targets in Israel.
According to AFP statistics, violence since October last year has killed at least 515 people in Lebanon.
Most of the dead were combatants, but at least 104 civilians were among them.
According to Israeli authorities, 18 soldiers and 13 civilians died on the Israeli side.
