The strongest storm in 20 years swept through the South this weekend, creating an almost apocalyptic scene for coastal areas. Meteorologists said that a lot of rain fell in 12 hours, as much as half a year.

The worst affected are resorts 2 Mai and Vama Vechefrom the county of Constanta, confirmed Daniel Georgescu, mayor of the Limanu commune.

But the worse news is that Romania could be hit by a hurricane similar to the one that devastated its southern coast.

“Looking at what will happen in the coming hours and days, this instability will change its trajectory, dissipate and obviously there will be more rainfall, but it will become less and less important. On the contrary, if we refer to the statistical background and the climatological aspects, we must take into account that one of the factors that contributed to the severity of this rainfall and the increase in winds was the extremely high temperatures on the surface of the Black Sea. The temperatures were also 5 degrees above normal, or the strong evaporation from this warm surface also contributed to the growth of this cyclone. If we take into account that the temperatures in the Black Sea and the Mediterranean are still very high, this event of heavy precipitation and strong instability is still possible”ANM climatologist Roxana Bojariu said that according to Romanian Observer News Network.
