Prominent member of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), Engineer Vitumbiko Mumba has formally submitted his nomination form for the position of First Vice President of the party.
In a statement on social media, Muba thanked those who have supported him and his cause, saying: “I am very grateful for all this (since February 2021) because it helps to spark people’s curiosity. Without these voices, other people would not know me and who I am.”

Mumba dismissed the negative background noise surrounding his candidacy, saying: “Consider all the negative background noise as part of the entertainment that accompanies every election.”
He expressed confidence in his ability to win, saying: “I have never lost a free and fair game, and I won’t this year, and I won’t anytime soon. Grace is always sufficient. Light always triumphs over darkness.”
Mumba’s nomination comes ahead of the Malayan Communist Party’s congress, scheduled for August 8-10, at which the party will elect its leaders.
If successful, Mumba will become the running mate of President Lazarus Chakwera, who is seeking re-election.

Engineer Vitumbiko Mumba is a Malawian politician and professional engineer.
He was a member of the Malayan Communist Party (MCP) and had been a staunch supporter of President Lazarus Chakwera.
Mumba has gained national recognition and has been named as a potential candidate for first vice president during the 2024 MCP electoral conference.
