This morning, one or more criminals broke into the Piccadilly Residence Hotel in Viale Amerigo Vespucci and succeeded in breaking into the office safe, taking away approximately €20,000 in cash. The theft was discovered by an employee at around 8:00 and he immediately alerted the state police.
According to the initial reconstruction of events, the thieves may have taken advantage of the “gap” between the end of the 7:00 duty shift and the arrival of the reception staff. The criminals entered the office from the rear of the building and, after rummaging through the drawers, found the key to the wall safe, which enabled them to commit the theft.
The Flying Squad has launched an investigation and is analysing footage from residential video surveillance cameras to trace the perpetrators.
