The British newspaper The Sun praised the island in a recent report, writing typically that it is a hidden Greek paradise island known only to locals, with pristine beaches and waters reminiscent of the Maldives.
As the publication points out, Mykonos is probably one of the most popular Greek islands for British tourists, and not only that, a stone’s throw away is another place that is reminiscent of the Maldives because of its deep blue waters.
The island is uninhabited, with about 60 abandoned houses being the only evidence of past human habitation.
Farmers are allowed to work on the island and their goats can be seen running around, but other than that not many people go there on a daily basis.
The British publication then noted that a relaxing, quiet day by the sea is one of the main reasons to visit the island, as whoever decides to go there “will find beautiful secluded beaches.”
He said some of the best on the island are Abelia, Lia, Stena and Glyfada. However, other parts of the island (some of the more remote areas) have equally beautiful coastlines.
Protected archaeological sites
The entire Rhineland is a protected archaeological site, which means no construction can take place. Only abandoned houses and ruins remain.
They added: “After admiring the warm Mediterranean skies, you can see the remains of ancient Christian churches and Greek temples, as well as the tombs of warriors from thousands of years ago. There are no telephones, electricity or running water on the island, and grazing and farming are strictly restricted.”
