Thousands of people were surrounded by floodwaters in three districts of South Gondar region following heavy rains, with local authorities saying more than 15,000 residents needed emergency rescue.
Experts from the Disaster Prevention and Food Security Coordination Office in Fugera and Libo Kemkem regions announced in an interview with VOA today that more than 12 kebeles in the two regions have been surrounded by floods.
The expert said six schools and two religious institutions in Kebeles were damaged by the floods. “3.7 hectares of land were destroyed; many livestock were also washed away by the floods,” he said.
