Data are calculated based on the results of the Rent and Expenses Survey and the Social Sector Rent Survey (ELBS). Rents do not include expenses and the sector covers all main residences, rented out vacant, where the main use is residential. The index is calculated based on the Laspeyres formula applied to rent per square meter. Changes in constant quality are measured by comparing rents in month M (January, April, July or October) with rents in month M-3. The indices are then linked.
The index therefore reflects actual recorded rent changes. It is therefore different from the Housing Rent Reference Index (RRI), which is a reference to rent revisions over the tenancy of the private rental stock. While actual changes in rents correlate with the evolution of the RRI, the two indices are not the same.
