The new Criminal Justice Act replaced the Indian Penal Code, the Criminal Procedure Code and the Evidence Act.
The Ministry of Justice on Tuesday said any reference to the now superseded Indian Penal Code, the Criminal Procedure Code and the Evidence Act in any statute, ordinance or regulation will mean a reference to the new Criminal Justice Code.
The Indian Penal Code (IPC), Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) and Evidence Act were replaced on July 1 by the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA).
The Legislative Department of the Ministry of Justice has issued a notification in this regard under the General Clauses Act.
An official explained that the notification was a reiteration of facts under the General Clauses Act, which deals with repeal and re-enactment of laws.
The official said that during various meetings and seminars on the three new laws, it was discovered that some people were not aware of the provisions of the General Clauses Act regarding dealing with repealed and re-enacted laws.
The official explained that the notice was to clarify and reiterate the facts.
