Rainfall causes flooding in many parts of the country

Khaflon and Khaflon, two northernmost provinces of the Greater Himalayas, are currently experiencing heavy rains and HS floods causing varying degrees of damage to many villages in the province.

According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), 16 villages in the two provinces had reported damage as of 7:00 pm.

Damage was reported in Haflong. The villages in the province are Ihavandu, Horaphoshi, Barke, Uligam, Marandhoo, Thakandu, Muraidhu, Kela, Uthimu, Morhadhoo, Vashafar and Philladhoo.

HD. The villages reported in the province are Nochivaranfar, Nochivaram, Hanimadu and Nelaidhu.

NDMA chief executive Hisan Hassan told VOA that Ihavandu, Horaphoshi, Kela and Barong were reported to be the worst damaged.

Two households in Barong have been evacuated, six households in Horaphosing have been evacuated, two households in Kela and two households in Ihavandu have also been evacuated.

The President has declared tomorrow a public holiday due to the current rains.
