Russian President Vladimir Putin welcomed eight Russian citizens released in a major prisoner swap between Moscow and the West today at Moscow’s Vnukovo Airport and expressed his gratitude to them.
“I want to congratulate you and thank you very much,” he said after hugging several of them on the runway, as seen on Russian television footage.
He particularly thanked those serving in the Russian army for their “loyalty”.
Defense Minister Andrei Belousov and FSB Director Alexander Bortnikov arrived at the airport with Putin, Russia’s TASS news agency reported.
