Putin almost directly stated at a press conference after his visit to Uzbekistan that he was satisfied with Lukashenko’s negotiating skills, or more precisely, his tolerance.
So, in response to the journalist’s question, “Did Lukashenko invite the Ukrainian military as an interlocutor (negotiator – ed.)?” (against the background of Zelensky’s statements about the alleged loss of legitimacy as Ukrainian president) Putin responded as follows:
“Unfortunately, Alexander Grigorievich is not yet in command of the Ukrainian army. If I were in command, we would have ended this conflict a long time ago and to the satisfaction of both sides. If Ukraine were now commanded by someone who is guided by the interests of the country, and not by the interests of European or overseas masters, we would have found a solution to the Ukrainian problem.”
Such a response allows us to assume that the domestic and foreign policies currently pursued by the Belarusian authorities are themes of “decoupling” from the Kremlin.
