In 2001, Cooper founded Caribbean Fashion Week to spotlight regional and local designers. Since then, the event has attracted more than 150 designers from countries as diverse as the United States, the United Kingdom, Trinidad and Tobago, and Haiti. Other notable initiatives include the International Model Agency Caribbean Model Search, the Superjam concert series, and the acclaimed television shows Caribbean Fashion Weekly and Searching for the Caribbean’s Next Supermodel.
Cooper was born in Kingston on 3 June 1953 and attended Kingston College, the University of the West Indies and the Norman Manley Law School. He practised law from 1975 to 1980 before devoting himself full time to Pulse. In recognition of his services to modelling he was awarded the Commander of the Order of Distinction in 2007.
Cooper’s daughter Safia is the current CEO of Pulse Investments. The company has expanded into the hospitality and media sectors, producing a variety of television programs for Caribbean and international broadcasters. The company controls the Pulse Centre on Trafalgar Road, which houses shops, offices, beauty services and the 26-room Pulse Rooms. In addition, Pulse operates Pulse Suites at Villa Ronai in Stoney Hill, a 75-apartment property on nine acres, and plans to develop the 30-apartment Pulse Homes project at Villa Ronai.
Kingsley Cooper’s vision has left an indelible mark on the Caribbean fashion industry and his legacy will live on through the ongoing efforts of Pulse Investments.
