The government provides a regular teaching supplies allowance of S$800 to public school teachers until July 2021. Many teachers feel that the S$800 allowance is not enough to supplement their teaching supplies.
Prime Minister Philippe J. Pierre listened to our teachers and took action to address their concerns within 24 months of taking office. In 2023, the Prime Minister increased the instructional materials allowance by $600 to an unprecedented $1,400!
Last year, for the first time, each public school teacher in Saint Lucia received $1,400 in direct financial support from the Government. The Government will do so again for the 2024/25 school year!
The government’s decision to increase the allowance for teaching materials and include temporary public school teachers ensures that no one is left out and everyone benefits.
The Government recognises the importance of equipping teachers with resources to deliver quality teaching and improve the classroom experience for students and learners.
