The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced a symbolic hunger strike outside the Parliament House and the Punjab Assembly today.

PTI lawmakers will begin a hunger strike on Tuesday, led by Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Omar Ayub. PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar and other members will join the protest.

The symbolic hunger strike is expected to last from 3pm to 7pm.

Meanwhile, the Sunni Itihad Committee has also decided to set up a hunger strike camp in Punjab, following the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s move in Punjab. The camp will be held outside the Punjab Assembly from 3 pm to 7 pm on July 24.

Leader of Opposition in the Punjab Assembly Malik Ahmed Bachhar said the decision to go on hunger strike was taken on the instructions of Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan and in consultation with Congress leader Mian Aslam Iqbal.

The symbolic hunger strike was aimed at demanding the release of party founder Imran Khan, protesting against the arrest of social media activists and addressing rising inflation.
