Tonight, as is their sad custom, Russian troops have attacked civilian infrastructure across Ukraine with more than a hundred rockets and multiple drones, killing at least 5 civilians and causing considerable damage to the population. In Ravenna, 6×3 posters (unsigned) praising Russia (“It is not the enemy”) have sprung up; posters hiding the most evil misinformation behind the word “peace”.
These are Russian propaganda posters that have been put up in other Italian cities, with the sole purpose of covering up the occupation of some Ukrainian territories with a false pacifist message. These initiatives are intended to mislead urban communities by concealing the facts (the unjustified invasion of Ukraine, Russia’s destructive war against civilians, attacks on children, etc.) and by a real deception of the truth, that is, hiding the Russian occupation of parts of Ukrainian territory and Putin’s imperialist bloody policy.
We ask the City of Ravenna to clearly dissociate itself from these contents and verify the legality of displaying “unsigned” propaganda; we ask all the people of Ravenna to express their opposition in a civilized, democratic but extremely firm way. Unfortunately, Italy is a fertile ground for Russian disinformation (fake news, professional websites, secret financing, etc.). But we must not forget the facts: 18 per cent of Ukraine’s territory is illegally occupied; 6.4 million refugees abroad and another 4 million people forced to leave their homes; and many civilian victims.
There can be no peace without justice and truth. These posters are a grave offense to a city like Ravenna, a “gold medal” of resistance to the Nazi-fascist dictatorship, a bearer of freedom, the defense of rights and democratic principles. We cannot compromise on these issues and must always be ready to mobilize.
