Prince Harry suffered a major blow this month before he could receive a major award after a petition was launched to block him from receiving it.

During this year’s ESPYS awards ceremony, ESPN will recognize outstanding individuals who embody courage, perseverance and the spirit of service.

Among the esteemed recipients is Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, who will be awarded the Pat Tillman Service Award.

The honor recognizes an individual who has made a significant contribution to others in the sports world, echoing the legacy of former NFL player and U.S. Army Ranger Pat Tillman.

Now, according to UK Newsa petition was launched asking ESPN to reconsider their decision, claiming that Harry has been “embroiled in a number of controversies that call into question his suitability for such a significant honor.”

The petition further claims that “giving this honor to an individual who does not embody the original purpose of the award diminishes the value of the award and disrespects Tillman’s memory.”

The media also quoted an insider as saying, “Pat Tillman is a force for unity and justice. Harry is a divisive element… There are many unsung heroes who deserve more respect.”
