“Our steadfast partnership is built on a shared commitment to economic progress and a shared respect for international norms and a rules-based multilateral order,” Wong told Starmer.

In his letter, Wong also spoke about the “strategic partnership” between Singapore and the UK, which will be launched in September 2023, calling it an “important milestone” in bilateral relations.

As part of the partnership, Singapore is seeking to strengthen collaboration in the following areas: Artificial Intelligence (AI)digital technologies, renewable energy and sustainability.

“These initiatives will create new opportunities for our businesses and our people,” Mr Wong said.

“We can work together to advance our nations’ common interests and address common challenges.”

Wong also wrote on Facebook: “I look forward to working with Mr Starmer and his team to strengthen our strategic partnership.”

He added that Singapore values ​​Britain’s continued engagement in the region, including as Dialogue Partners As a member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and Five-Power Defense Arrangement.

The United Kingdom was granted ASEAN Dialogue Partner status in August 2021.
