The Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, Mr. Ali Mahaman Lamine Zaina, chaired today at the Radisson Hotel in Niger a joint review of World Bank-funded projects in Niger.
The objectives of this review are clear: to assess the performance of 27 ongoing projects, address obstacles encountered and improve the overall efficiency of a portfolio valued at more than 2.5 trillion CFA francs. These projects cover important sectors such as water, energy, agriculture, education and health. It is worth noting that 1.8 trillion CFA francs remain to be disbursed.
In his speech, Prime Minister Zena thanked the participants and stressed the importance of cooperation with the World Bank. He also spoke about the sanctions imposed by the World Bank after the events of July 26, 2023, while emphasizing the need to recalibrate projects to better meet the country’s current needs.
Han Fraites, World Bank Resident Representative in Niger, reiterated the institution’s commitment to transparency and effective collaboration, recalling that the projects were designed by and for Niger to improve the well-being of the people of Niger.
The ceremony brought together members of the National Council for the Defence of the Homeland (CNSP), the government, and several dignitaries and guests, marking an important step in Niger’s partnership with the World Bank.
