Malawian President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera has called on Malawi to work together to achieve jobs, wealth creation and food security.
Speaking at the opening of this year’s Blantyre Agricultural Expo, Chakwera said his vision remains the same, which is to achieve food security.
“I have shared with you before my vision of job creation, wealth creation and food security. I have shared with you that achieving all three objectives requires us to work together to promote the production and manufacturing of agricultural, tourism and mining products for export,” he said.
The President said strong measures had been taken to ensure Malawi achieves economic growth.
These initiatives include: the Affordable Inputs Program, the Agriculture Commercialization Program, the Shire Valley Transformation Project, the Large Farm Program, and dozens of irrigation schemes across the country.
The President said the good news is that stakeholders have signed agreements around the world to ensure offtake markets for agricultural products, including in Europe.
Chakwera praised Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi for all his achievements.
“I am pleased to tell you that none of this would have been possible without a partner and friend who is closer than a brother, His Excellency Filipe Jacinto Nyusi, President of the Republic of Mozambique,” he said.
