Kathmandu, July 26. Maoist Centre Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda put forward a proposal for broad unity of the left at the party’s standing committee meeting.
At a meeting at the party office in Parisdhan on Saturday, President Prachanda proposed initiatives for broad Left unity with the Samajwadi Morcha. Pravata Agni Sapkota said people support broad Left unity and reorganisation of the communist parties. When the big Left unites and moves forward, other parties follow and even if the leaders do not want to reorganise the communist parties now, it is mandatory eventually.”
Earlier, Prachanda had said that he would launch a purification campaign to unite the party.
He said that the ideas of the Eighth Party Congress should be integrated and a new debate should be held. Prachanda insisted on carrying out a purification movement within the party and presenting a new program to the public.
Spokesman Sapkota said the leaders who spoke on his proposal also stressed the need for a clean-up drive. He further said, “Everyone admits that there is a little bit of pollution.”
