Porsche has radically updated its iconic 911 sports car. The new 911 Carrera GTS is the first road-legal 911 model to feature a mild-performance hybrid drive consisting of a 3.6-litre boxer engine. The 911 Carrera GTS Coupe accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in just 3.0 seconds and reaches a top speed of 312 km/h.
The 911 Carrera is powered by a revised 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged boxer engine that is more powerful than its predecessor. The new 911 also features an updated design, improved aerodynamics, a new interior, improved standard equipment and expanded connectivity.
The lightweight and powerful T-Hybrid system includes a newly developed exhaust gas electric turbocharger. An electric motor integrated in the unit housing between the turbine wheel and the compressor wheel helps to accelerate them immediately. As a result, the compressor quickly accelerates and increases the filling pressure. When the gas pressure is high enough, the same electric motor goes into generator mode. In this way, it can provide up to 11 kW (15 hp) of electrical power from the exhaust gas flow.

The drive also includes a permanent-magnet synchronous motor integrated into the new eight-speed dual-clutch (PDK) transmission, which offers improved performance in terms of transmission power capabilities. Even at speeds in the idling range, it provides the boxer engine with up to 150 Nm of additional torque and a gross power increase of up to 40 kW. The two electrical units are connected in a common network via a lightweight and compact high-voltage battery. Its size and weight are comparable to a conventional 12-volt starter battery, but it stores up to 1.9 kWh of energy (gross energy) and operates at a voltage of 400 V. In order to optimise the overall weight, Porsche uses lightweight lithium-ion batteries to power the 12-volt on-board electrical system.

At the heart of the T-Hybrid’s powertrain is the new 3.6-liter boxer engine. Even without the help of the traction motor, the boxer engine delivers an output of 485 horsepower and 570 Newton-meters of torque. Total system power is 541 horsepower and 610 Newton-meters of torque. This is a 61-horsepower increase over its predecessor.
The 911 Carrera continues to be equipped with the 3.0-litre twin-turbo boxer engine. This engine has also been completely redesigned. Porsche has simultaneously reduced emissions and increased power to 290 kW (394 hp) with a maximum torque of 450 Nm. The new 911 Carrera Coupe accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.1 seconds (3.9 seconds with the Sport Chrono package) and reaches a top speed of 294 km/h.
