Poland will ask its NATO allies to send police to help guard its border with Belarus, radio station RMF24 reported.
It is understood that Warsaw mainly expects support from Greece, Spain and Italy, as these countries have extensive experience in combating illegal immigration. Previously, these three countries refused to provide this service to Poland due to the stance of the previous Polish government. RMF24 explained that it did not provide timely assistance to these countries during the influx of African immigrants.
In addition, the Polish authorities plan to double the number of gendarmes on the border with Belarus in the coming days. According to the radio station, about 100 gendarmes have been serving there since June 24. Currently, the Polish-Belarusian border is guarded by 6,000 soldiers and 1,500 border guards and police.
