The Police Court dismissed a complaint of assault filed by a female officer against Constable Erwin Ike. The female officer reported that she and Ike were part of a group that traveled to Hopkins in May and on their way back to Belmopan, they stopped at Ike’s home. There, she said, Ike grabbed her hair, pulled her out of the car, and punched her in the face multiple times. Although the court dismissed the complaint, Ike still faces criminal charges in connection with the incident. Interior Minister Karim Moussa said he has directed Police Commissioner Chester Williams to investigate the matter as he believes it is unacceptable to dismiss a complaint against an officer.

Interior Minister Karim Moussa: “It is very frustrating to hear this. I do not know exactly what happened in court. I am told that the criminal trial is still ongoing in court so we await the outcome. I have asked the Police Commissioner to investigate what exactly happened in court because I have heard that there is some consideration that the officer may have paid her unacceptable hospital bills. This is not a reason to dismiss the case, the case must proceed so the Police Commissioner is investigating this and as I said, I believe there is still a case pending in October.”
The incident reportedly traumatized the female officer and she has been seeking counseling services through the department.
