Chitwan, July 26. In recent years, after passing grade 12, more and more students have gone abroad for further studies and employment.
To prevent students from doing this, schools have started revising the old syllabus to make it fit the needs of the times.
Professor Rajesh Kumar Thakurathi, dean of the Pokhara University School of Science and Technology, said the university had revised its curriculum to make it more attractive to students.
“We have designed the courses to suit the current environment as per the market demand,” he said at the inauguration of new undergraduate and postgraduate courses at the United Institute of Technology, Bharatpur on Friday.
Dean Thakurathi said that not only theoretical knowledge is emphasized in practical classes. He said that before there was no internship, there was a mandatory internship for three months in the engineering department. “We have created a skill-based curriculum”, he said.
The university has arranged for the campus to enroll the undergraduates it needs. He said they offer more scholarships than other universities.
Over the past year, the university has provided scholarships to more than 1,100 undergraduates. Dean Thakurathi said that 20% of the scholarships are given to various campuses and 10% to affiliated colleges.
The university has 58 affiliated colleges, 4 affiliated colleges and 3 jointly affiliated colleges. The Institute of Science and Technology has 20 campuses. Of these, one is an individual college, one is a joint venture and 18 are affiliated colleges. He said that all the colleges are unable to send students as per the quota.
On the occasion, Dean Thakurathi said that with a focus on Chitwan and surrounding areas, Bachelor of Engineering in Information Technology (BE IT) and Master of Engineering in Transportation Engineering and Management will be offered at UTC from this academic session.
During the program, the Principal and Director of Education of the college, Prof. Keshavdutt Awasthi said that the college plans to admit 48 BE IT students and 30 “Masters in Transportation Engineering and Management” students every 6 months.
