Last Friday, the Environment Fund began making the first disbursements under the 2023 More Sustainable Buildings Support Program, and the Ministry of Environment and Energy revealed in a statement that payments have also begun to be made to beneficiaries of the Vale Efficiency II program.
The ministry will allocate €30 million for the scheme in 2023, which ended last October. Payments were supposed to start in January this year, however, when the new executive took office, there were still 78,000 applications to be analysed.
Efficiency Vouchers II allocates €104 million and the scheme began accepting applications in November last year.
The advances for both projects are the result of an agreement between the Environment Fund and four national higher education institutions, which made it possible to trigger the evaluation of applications awaiting a decision.
“This is an important day for Portugal to advance sustainable development and energy efficiency,” said Maria da Graça Carvalho, the minister of environment and energy.
“With the start of the first disbursements of the More Sustainable Buildings Support Program and the Vale Efficiency Program, we are taking an important step towards achieving our environmental and social commitments and a sign of confidence in the Portuguese who applied. They have not seen a response from the state since the summer of 2023, the minister revealed.
