Passenger missed Voepass flight because of coffee
The survivor told a local TV reporter: “He was doing his job and saved my life.”
Passenger Adriano Assis was delayed by coffee and missed the boarding notification for the Voepass Linhas Aereas flight, which crashed approximately 89 km from its final destination, Guarulhos International Airport in São Paulo. As a result, the total number of casualties was revised from 62 to 61 (57 passengers and 4 crew members).
After confirming there were no survivors, President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva ordered three days of national mourning “in memory of the 61 victims of this tragic plane crash.”
The ATR-72 twin-turboprop aircraft took off from Cascavel in Paraná state but crashed in a densely populated area of Vinhedo city in Sao Paulo state. It could have easily hit a house a few yards from where it crashed.

The survivor, who had been arguing with airline staff over being denied boarding after the doors were closed, was still waiting at the airport to catch another flight when he heard the news and ended up hugging the man with whom he had been arguing violently an hour earlier. “He was just doing his job, he saved my life,” the survivor told a local TV crew.
Meanwhile, Nathalie Cicari, a neighbor at the crash site, said she had only time to take cover and pray. “It was horrible. I was having lunch and heard a really loud noise, very close to me, I thought it was a drone, but it was higher.”

“I went out to the balcony and saw the drone hovering. After a few seconds, I realised this was not a normal movement of an aircraft. It only gave me time to lean over and pray like in the movies. That’s when I heard the loud noise of the crash,” she added.
