Kathmandu, August 4. The House of Representatives Committee on State Order and Good Governance will hold its weekly discussion on the Prevention of Corruption Amendment Act 2059 from Wednesday.
For this purpose, a meeting was held at 11 a.m. Earlier, the committee had held discussions with the members of parliament who proposed amendments to the bill from July 24 to 27. On July 31, discussions were held with officials of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Power and officials of the National Vigilance Centre.
Home Minister Ramesh Akhtar and Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ajay Kumar Chaurasia were summoned to Wednesday’s meeting. The home minister is an ex-officio member of the National Order Council, while the law minister was invited by the committee to provide legal advice.
While discussing the amendment bill to the Prevention of Corruption Act 2059, the committee raised four main issues.
Amendments MPs differed over issues such as the five-year time limit for corruption investigations and whether to give the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Power the power to investigate financial irregularities in the private sector.
After the corruption case was filed, the committee discussed whether public officials should be suspended and how to address political corruption.
The proposed bill mentions that corruption investigations will be limited to five years. It is also proposed that the power to investigate financial irregularities in the private sector be given to the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Power.
However, the bill is silent on whether public officials should be suspended after a corruption case is filed and where political corruption should be addressed.
