Deputy Mayor of Tampere Ilka Sassi According to the committee chairman, after the committee members unanimously decided to remove him from the committee he belonged to, Anne-Marie Jusila (National Control Conference).

According to Jusila, Sasi was dismissed because the council lacked confidence in the deputy mayor and accused him of misconduct.

Police suspect Sasi of sexual harassment and alcohol-related offences, which are believed to have occurred after a Christmas party in December last year.

The council panel, which includes members of the National Coalition Party and the Swedish People’s Party, made the decision at a special meeting on Monday.

Jussila told Yle on Tuesday that after learning that the police’s preliminary investigation into Sasi had been completed and the case would be referred to Procuratorate for consideration of charges.

“The panel’s unanimous decision was difficult but necessary,” Jusila said in a press release.

The group initially suggested that Sassi voluntarily leave the group, but he decided to stay.

According to Jusila, the group discussed Sasi’s actions in several meetings but said the deputy mayor had failed to win the group’s trust.

Jusila said the council panel will review Sassi’s status based on the outcome of the final criminal trial.
