Parliament has approved the declaration of conversion as well as the law itself as a state of emergency. The decision to declare a state of emergency was made by a five-sixth majority because it is an emergency law. The law was passed by a two-thirds majority.
The conversion bill was approved and declared an emergency by a vote of 167 to 31. No one cast a blank vote, absent Annika Sariko (Center). The reason for the absence is that Saariko’s baby was born on Thursday.

The so-called conversion law is an exceptional law, so its development during this election period needs urgent consideration. According to the law, the Finnish border can be temporarily closed to asylum applications. The purpose is to combat instrumentalized immigration from Russia.
Emergency legislation requires a 5/6 majority in parliament.
After an emergency vote, Parliament voted on the content of the law itself. Passage requires a 2/3 majority in Parliament.
The opposition Social Democratic Party has been in a decisive position. According to preliminary information, six party representatives plan to vote against the law, but otherwise the Social Democratic bloc supports it.

There was a rich and colorful discussion on the conversion method before the plenary session vote.
Coalition MPs Ben Ziskovic He brought up the Green Party’s remarks that the rule of law in Finland will be thrown into the trash with the conversion law. He said the Green Party has been spreading “nonsense” about the conversion law.
“You are spreading such rude behavior. Is the rule of law in Finland really being thrown on the scrap heap? How dare you?” Ziskovic shouted, waving the Green Party’s bulletin in his hand.

Kiru said he had received permission from the Social Democratic parliamentary group to vote against the conversion law and that he intended to do so.
“The process became so difficult that we are in the situation we are in now,” Kiru said.
