SINGAPORE: Singapore’s Yip Pin Xiu won the women’s 100m backstroke S2 final at the Paris Paralympic Games on Friday (Aug 30), making it a historic third consecutive title.
At the La Défense Stadium, the defending champion won Singapore’s first medal of the Paris Olympics with a time of 2:21.73.
She finished slightly ahead of Heidi Aceves of Mexico, who took silver (2:21.79), and Angela Procida of Italy, who took bronze (2:24.48).
Mr. Ye, 32, won gold medals in this event at the 2016 and 2020 Paralympic Games.
She is Singapore’s most decorated Paralympic athlete and the current world record holder in that event, as well as the world record holder in the 50m backstroke S2 class.
