Paris said goodbye to the Summer Olympics on Sunday night after hosting a tournament that received rave reviews around the world.

The closing ceremony of the Games was held at the Stade de France in front of 71,500 spectators, with around 9,000 athletes carrying their country’s flags applauding during the parade.

The ceremony was opened by French swimming hero Leon Marchand, winner of four medals at the Games, who carried the Olympic flame from central Paris to the stadium.

The closing of this Olympics begins the countdown to the next Olympics, which will be held in Los Angeles four years later.
During the 17 days of competition, many impressive moments were recorded and records in many different events were broken.
Unlike the opening ceremony, which took place on a rainy day on the Seine, the closing ceremony began after sunset in the French capital.

The United States team topped the medal count at these Olympics, winning 40 gold medals and 126 total medals.
China ranks second with 91.
Kosovo sent nine athletes to the Olympics and won two Olympic medals.
Judoka Distria Krasniqi won the silver medal, and another judoka, Laura Fazliu, won the bronze medal.
Kosovo has won a total of five Olympic medals in three Olympic Games. /rel
