Australia won the men’s doubles gold medal for the second time in Olympic history. Matthew Ebden and John Peers defeated the American duo of Austin Krajicek and Rajeev Ram in a thrilling final. The match had to be decided in a tie-break after both teams had won one set each.
In this short decision, Ebden/Pearce reserved the better ending for themselves. The Australian team led comfortably 9-5. Although they missed the first three match points, they won the decisive point in the fourth attempt with 6:7 (6:8), 7:6 (7:1), 10:8.
