The Foreign Ministers of Paraguay and Argentina, Rubén Ramírez Lescano and Diana Mondino, met on the sidelines of the General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS) in Asuncion and reached an understanding on the Paraná-Paraguay waterway.
According to the joint communiqué, a roadmap for restarting the bilateral mechanism was drawn up at a meeting held in Buenos Aires on April 9. Thus, the two countries are moving towards resolving issues such as tolls on the Paraguay-Paraná waterway, electricity bills owed by Argentina to the Yacireta entity, the construction of international bridges, and coordination in the fight against smuggling and drug trafficking.
Ramírez and Mondino also launched the project to build international bridges connecting Pilar to Puerto Cano, Pozohondo to Mision La Paz, and the improvement of the border control areas of Puerto Falcon and Clorinda.
