After her stunning performance in the French Open final, Italian Jasmin Paolini repeated it all at Wimbledon and at the age of 29 reached the final of the world’s most respected tennis tournament.
After the comeback, Paolini defeated Croatian tennis player Dona Vicic 2:1 in the set -2:6, 6:4, 7:6(8), creating a new sensation in the tennis world.
The match lasted 2 hours and 51 minutes, making it the longest final in the history of the women’s Wimbledon tournament.
Until this year, Paolini had never made it past the second round of a Grand Slam tournament, and now she is the fifth tennis player in the world to do so, having previously reached the fourth round at the Australian Open and the finals at the French Open and Wimbledon.
In the first set, the Croatian seemed to have easily caught up with the Italian, who barely held his serve in a marathon first game and somehow held on until 2:2.
When Vekic broke in the fifth game, Piolini disappeared from the court and the Croatian won the first set in a routine manner 6:2.
In the second game, Paolini saved three break points, and at the most important moment, after losing only one point, she successfully broke and tied the score at 6:4.
What followed was an incredible third set! Dona Vekic immediately broke, defended, held on until 3:2, and then broke three times in a row.
First she tied with Piolini at 3:3, then took the lead with Vecchi’s 4:3, but was broken again by Paolini.
In the super tie-break, Paolini was even more successful – 10:8, advancing to the finals!
