The Panevėžys Municipality hopes to receive new teachers after approving a new procedure for providing financial support to teachers who lack professional expertise.
“Our goal is to ensure that the city’s children receive the highest quality education. Therefore, we are constantly looking for solutions to attract and retain teachers. As early as December last year, we approved the program for the introduction of teachers in short supply and teacher retraining in the city’s educational institutions, one of the directions of which is to provide financial support for those who intend to teach in the city’s schools. We hope that the new financial measures will further encourage teachers to choose Panevėžys,” said Silvija Sėrikovienė, head of the education department of the Panevėžys Municipality.
After the municipality announced the competition, teachers who have completed or are studying a bachelor’s, bachelor’s or retraining course in a professional field at a Lithuanian higher education institution will be able to apply for financial support. In addition, teachers of missing specialties working in educational institutions in the municipality of Panevėžys will be eligible.
Beneficiaries studying at colleges will be able to receive a partial study grant and a lump sum payment to cover travel expenses for a period of 3 years, while beneficiaries studying at universities will receive a study grant for 4 years. For those students who are on the teacher shortage list and are studying retraining courses, the annual tuition fees of each beneficiary will be funded once a year at 100%.
New teachers who have obtained a profession that is included in the list of teachers with missing professions can be compensated for housing rent or provided with municipal housing. There is one condition – in order to receive financial support, the teacher must declare that his/her place of residence is outside the city of Panevėžys and have an agreement with the Panevėžys educational institution on employment for at least 5 years. The amount of housing rent compensation cannot exceed 200 euros per month. The incentive is valid for up to 2 years.
Young teachers who start working or teachers who lack expertise will be able to receive a one-time health service payment of 200 euros. The incentive will be implemented for a period of no more than 2 years, provided that the teacher commits to working in the municipality’s educational institutions for no less than 3 years.
According to the city government, the tender to receive financial support will be announced in October.
