Ouagadougou/Koumdayonré Land dispute: People ask the State for help

Bibata Zida/Ouédraogo, spokesperson for the Koumdayonré residents, said that there were 765 concessions on 72 hectares of land, but only 450 were successful. She added that after many measures, the ATTP company provided housing in Gouma (Tanghin-Dassouri) to make up for the shortage. “We will have no doubt relocated to Gouma, more than 20 kilometers away. The owners of undivided land were forced to transfer their properties to new buyers and then relocate to a new location in Gouma, in the commune of Tanghin-Dassouri. It is noteworthy that the site of Gouma was not present in any of the meetings. This situation is unacceptable and constitutes a blatant violation of our rights,” she insisted.

Today’s speakers said they have turned to justice and the government to resolve the problem. Bilal Tiemtoré, a representative of the aggrieved landowners, insisted that complaints had been filed with the courts. He said referrals had also been submitted to the ministry responsible for land affairs and to the General Directorate of Control of Development and Construction Operations. “We, the victims, are still waiting for a solution; our situation continues to deteriorate because the real estate developer ATTP continues to sell plots of land despite the ban adopted by the Transitional Legislative Assembly in 2023,” Bilal Tiemtoré confessed.

During this meeting with journalists, the people of Kumdayonre openly demanded that the competent authorities intervene. “Our questions remain unanswered: why are people who did not even have land in the area now being allocated land, while the real owners must be evicted? Why must we be deprived of our hard-earned land and relocated to Guma, about 20 km from Kumdayonre? These injustices and discriminatory practices threaten social cohesion and risk provoking violent conflict. We do not want violence, but no one needs to do the impossible. We acquired our lands honestly, at the cost of great sacrifice and hard work, and we are simply not ready to give them up for the benefit of buyers,” said spokesperson Bibata Zida/Ouédraogo.

Despite the hope that a possible solution can be found in the days ahead, the residents of Kumdayonlei have only one slogan: not to give up any part of their land.
