The Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) on Wednesday participated in the 36th GCC Olympic Committee Presidents’ Meeting in Doha.

Representatives of the Arab Olympic Committee included President Khalid bin Mohammed al Zubair, Secretary General Taha bin Sulaiman al Kushari, Arab Olympic Committee Board Member Lujaina bint Mohsen al Zaabiyah and Board Member Dr. Mansour bin Sultan Al Touqi.

During the talks, the two sides reviewed the proposals of the GCC Executive Office and Secretariat on the development of sports in the GCC and discussed measures to enhance the capacity of the GCC Olympic Committee.

The GCC group will organise 43 sporting events this year. The secretariat has been asked to provide a schedule for 2025, which will include training courses, conferences and seminars.

The establishment of a planning, coordination and follow-up committee, composed of candidates from GCC countries with experience and competence in the field of sports, was approved. The committee’s tasks and responsibilities were also approved. The Executive Office will follow up, monitor and approve the committee’s outcomes.

They reviewed the Executive Office’s proposals on international cooperation and partnerships with international organizations.

The Committee reviewed the recommendations of the Executive Office on the outcome of the Working Group on the GCC Games Management. The Committee approved the change of the organizational regulations to the GCC Games Management and Rules.

The committee thanked the UAE for the successful hosting of the first GCC Youth Games, which took place from April 16 to May 2.

All members approved the request of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee to cancel the first indoor Gulf Games originally scheduled for the end of this year due to the busy calendar of regional and international sporting events.
