American higher education issues once again in the spotlightMany Americans are more skeptical about the value and cost of college, according to a new poll released by Gallup and the Lumina Foundation.

According to the main findings, Only 36% of adults said they have “a great deal” or “a great deal” of confidence in higher education. This suggests that trust levels have been falling since 2015, when the figure was 57%.
Likewise, this year’s survey considered questions focused on understanding the reasons for the decline in trust. Nearly a third of respondents said college was “too expensive,” the report said.while 24% believe students are not receiving a proper education or are not learning the knowledge they need to succeed.
Now, 67% of respondents say colleges are heading in the “wrong direction,” while only 31% believe they are heading in the right direction.
When people express confidence in higher education, they typically think of four-year institutions, Gallup said. But the survey found that 49% of adults said they have “a great deal” or “quite a lot” of confidence in two-year programs, compared to 33% of Americans who say the same about four-year colleges.
