But her father was against her active participation in both sports because he believed that these two sports were not suitable for girls like her.

Despite her father’s disapproval, Iman managed to become a boxer and represented her country at the highest level. Then, in the quarterfinals, Ireland’s Kelly Harrington knocked her out in the ring, but nothing was heard about the Algerian’s ethnic identity.
The controversy on this issue actually began at the World Boxing Championships in the spring of 2023. Kelliff had already qualified for the final when the International Boxing Association (IBA) decided to disqualify her from the title “because she failed to meet the qualifying criteria for the women’s competition”. The same thing happened to the “bronze medalist” Taiwanese player Lin Yu-ting, who was stripped of her medal. The latter also involves the topicality of the 2024 Olympics on the same subject.
The IBA decided to disqualify the two boxers “because of their high testosterone levels and also because a DNA test showed they had XY chromosomes”, said IBA president Umar Kremlef. “They were pretending to be women,” the Russian said, typically.
