centralMaluke Letete, Governor of the Bank of Lesotho (CBL), hasIt strongly denied allegations that nearly RM50 million was stolen from the bank.
He said there had not been any theft of funds from the central bank as alleged by Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and that the government was free to audit the central bank’s accounts to prove that fact.

When CBL officials appeared before the PAC, they gave answers that failed to satisfy PAC members. Transactions that have come to the attention of the Committee– for example –Duplicate payments of M1,289,945 were made to the South African company MRP Enterprises (Pty) Ltd. The company actually received M2,579,890 instead of M1,289,945.

“I reiterate that we are transparent and we are open to anybody in this country to do any audit they want about the use of public funds within CBL. We cannot stop anybody because we know we are innocent. I am proud to say that. I knew I was innocent even when I was working for the government.… That’s why I was appointed governor.”
