Vienna police and professional firefighters searched for a man who was reported missing near the New Danube River on Thursday afternoon. Reader reporter Julia H. sent in photos of the operation.

When questioned by the police and the specialist fire brigade, VIENNA.at learned that at around 4:40 pm on August 29, witnesses apparently observed an altercation on the Danube near Georg-Danzer-Steg. It is said that a man then fell into the water and did not come out of the New Danube.

A helicopter and several boats from the fire department and police also took part in the search that followed. VIENNA.at reader and journalist Julia H. happened to be there and sent us photos.

The operation continued until about 6pm, but searches, as well as those later in the evening, were unsuccessful, according to a fire brigade spokesman. Emergency services were unable to determine if an altercation had actually taken place and then a man jumped into the water.
