Kathmandu, July 5. The Nepal Army has so far opened 1,411 km of roads in different parts of the country. 38 Belibrijs installed during this period have been handed over to the road department.
The constitution stipulates that the Nepal Army can be mobilized for development, construction and disaster management. Major General Dharmendra Kumar Jha, co-director of the Nepal Military Development and Construction Bureau, said that the army is carrying out development and construction in accordance with the Nepal Constitution, national security policy and instructions of the Nepal government.
At present, the Nepal Army is participating in the construction of three national pride projects and two priority projects with a total length of 274.537 kilometers. Among them, the construction of four strategically important north-south highway corridors is being carried out in an orderly manner under the direct supervision of the Army Development and Construction Bureau.
The projects currently under construction include Darchula-Tinkar (79 km), Benighat-Arughat-Larkevnjyang (92 km), Karnali corridor (Lalibagar-Bagar-Dulkikunna section and Gwanaparichaur-Badrigaon-Bhukka Khola section) (22 km) and Khandbari-Kimathanka (Chamtang-Ghogappa section) (10.51 km).
Joint Director Jha said that the most important Kathmandu-Talai-Madhesi Expressway project (70.977 km) is managed by the Nepal Army.
The army had earlier inaugurated the Surkhet-Jumla 88 km, Beni-Jomsom 91 km, Chinchu-Jajarkot 45 km, Bensisahar-Chame 65 km, Nagma-Gamgarhi 94 km stretches.
The Kathmandu-Talai-Madhesi highway starting pilot track of 80 km, Mailung-Safrubansi 17 km, Jajarkot-Dolp Dunai 117 km, Kaligandaki corridor (Gulmi-Baglung section 75 km) and Kadali corridor (Khulalu-Laifu-Salisalla section 122 km) are also road projects that the Nepal Army has completed.
