The Russian army is incapable of achieving a “major breakthrough” on the Ukrainian battlefield, and Kiev has inflicted a major defeat on Russia by striking deep into Russian territory. NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg expressed this view in an interview with AFP.
According to him, Russia launched another offensive against Ukraine in the spring and summer, “but so far with only minor successes.”
“We have no other indications or reasons to believe that Russia has the capability and capacity to make a significant breakthrough,” he added.
However, the alliance’s secretary-general warned that Russia was likely to “continue to advance along the front line” and carry out air strikes on Ukraine.
“But we saw that the Ukrainians were able to hold the front, that they were able to continue to inflict severe losses on the Russian occupiers — both on the front lines and with strikes deep into Russian territory,” Stoltenberg noted.
It is understood that Russia launched a new offensive in the northern part of the Kharkiv region in May, while also taking advantage of delays in the West’s supply of weapons to the Ukrainian armed forces to increase pressure on eastern Ukraine.
