San Marino athlete Myles Amine’s Olympic adventure came to a bittersweet end after he gave it his all in the freestyle wrestling ring. Despite showing great courage and determination, Amine had to succumb to a ridiculous result that cost him an Olympic podium finish at the end of a competition that left everyone hanging.
The match with the Russian Darren Kurugurev was a match that was a concentrated one of emotions. The final result of 5-4 does not fully tell the story of an athlete who demonstrated technical and human excellence. Miles Amin left the arena with the respect of all those who followed his path and with the awareness that he had carried high the flag of the Republic of San Marino.
“Although it is disappointing not to reach the podium, Miles showed the true meaning of courage and commitment. He performed to the highest expectations, made our Republic proud and was an example of tenacity and passion,” said Rossano Fabbri, Secretary of State for Sports. “Miles fought until the very last second and for this he deserves the recognition from all of us. He has undoubtedly won all of our hearts.”
Minister Fabbri thanked all the San Marino athletes who took part in the Games, stressing that every effort they make brings the support and pride of the entire community.
