Muscat: A joint team of the Ministry of Health, Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) and Royal Oman Police (ROP) seized three apartments and a beauty salon in Bausher and Seeb governorates for performing unauthorized cosmetic surgeries.
The raids, which resulted in the seizure of more than 4,600 illegal medical and cosmetic products and the arrest of four undocumented workers, were conducted after monitoring social media sites and receiving reports from the Consumer Protection Bureau.
Dr. Said bin Mohammed al Mughairy, Director of the Quality Control and Patient Safety Department at the General Directorate of Private Healthcare Facilities at the Ministry of Health, said that a joint team consisting of the Ministry of Health, the Consumer Protection Authority and the Royal Oman Police is actively combating illegal practices and unlicensed clinics and beauty salons. Through regular surprise inspections and closures of unlicensed beauty services, the team has successfully prevented serious health complications and reduced risks. He pointed out that products used in beauty services must be approved by health authorities. Unlicensed centers may use expired and adulterated products, which can have serious consequences for the recipient’s health. In addition, illegal practices often involve fraud and deception, either providing unsafe services or using illegal substances.

During the raid, police seized more than 4,600 illegal medical and cosmetic products and arrested four undocumented workers.
Khalid bin Salem al Siyabi, Director of the Market Regulation and Monitoring Department at the Consumer Protection Authority, said the joint team arrested four female workers who were injecting Botox and fillers without permission and seized 4,610 unlicensed cosmetics. The perpetrators have been detained awaiting trial. He pointed out that it is very important to receive cosmetic services from authorized providers to avoid serious medical complications.

During the raid, police seized more than 4,600 illegal medical and cosmetic products and arrested four undocumented workers.
In an investigative report published in November last year, the newspaper warned that illegal cosmetic services could lead to serious conditions such as gangrene and other deformities. It warned people to be wary of illegal cosmetic procedures, most commonly fillers and Botox, provided by unauthorised cosmetic clinics and unqualified personnel. Plastic surgeons and dermatologists have sounded the alarm because licensed centres are receiving an increasing number of cases of women suffering complications such as gangrene, irreversible damage, deformities and allergies after cosmetic procedures at unauthorised clinics and beauty salons.
